Kling 4.0 API: what we know
The short version: Kling's own developer API has not shipped yet. Here is everything confirmed, everything reported, and exactly what to watch for — so you are ready the day it opens.
Status as of October 20, 2026 · API: not shipped (coming soon)
What we know
Kling's API pricing page states plainly that current plans do not support Kling 4.0 — Kling 3.0 (including 4K) is on that API, and 4.0 is marked coming soon [official]. That single line is the most reliable status signal available: when it changes, the API is here.
What does exist today is scriptability without a REST API: Kling 4.0 ships with MCP and CLI support, so agent frameworks and terminal workflows can drive generation now [official]. If your pipeline is agent-shaped rather than request-shaped, you may not need to wait.
The third route is third-party platforms: several AI API aggregators list Kling 4.0 in their catalogs and expose it through their own endpoints [reported]. Expect their markup, their rate limits, and their queue — convenient for prototyping, rarely the long-term price.
Pricing signals (not API pricing)
No official API pricing exists, because there is no official API yet. The numbers circulating — 15 credits per second at 1080p, 10 per second at 720p — are tester reports from Kling's consumer plans [reported]. Useful for budgeting a manual workflow; not a predictor of API rates, which are usually priced per second in dollars and move independently.
For calibration, the previous generation is instructive: Kling 3.0's API pricing is public and tiered by resolution and audio [official]. Expect 4.0's API to follow a similar shape — per-second, resolution-tiered — but treat the actual numbers as unknown until Kling publishes them.
What to watch for
Three things, in order of importance. First, the wording on Kling's API pricing page — the "does not support 4.0" line disappearing is launch day. Second, rate limits and concurrency terms, which matter more than the headline price for production use. Third, whether the 4K / 10-bit HDR output (currently coming soon on the model itself) is available through the API at launch or arrives later.
Until then, the pragmatic move is to prototype against a third-party endpoint or the MCP/CLI route, and keep your integration behind your own abstraction — providers, prices, and limits in this space change monthly.
FAQ
Does Kling 4.0 have a developer API?
Not its own — Kling lists the developer API as coming soon as of October 2026. Kling 3.0 is on the existing Kling API; the 4.0 endpoints have not opened.
Can I use Kling 4.0 programmatically today?
Two routes exist. First, MCP and CLI support ship with Kling 4.0, so agent and terminal workflows can drive generation without a REST API. Second, several third-party AI platforms list Kling 4.0 in their model catalogs and expose it through their own APIs — at their own markup and rate limits.
How much will the Kling 4.0 API cost?
Unknown — no official API pricing exists yet. The only numbers in circulation are tester reports of 15 credits per second at 1080p on Kling’s consumer plans. Credits are not API pricing, so treat any dollar figure you see today as unverified.
How will I know when the API launches?
Watch three places: Kling’s API pricing page (it currently states the plans do not cover 4.0 — that line will change), the Kling developer changelog, and this guide, which we update when the status changes.
